It's been raining for 7 days and mostly 7 nights. And It's been the best week! We have solar panels and no hot water so we've been boiling it to give the boys baths. Cold showers have a good way of making you see the light! Our "extra" kids have been gone for a holiday and I've been able to get a little bit more time with Alec. The neighbour kids have a very strong influence on him.(and me I s'pose) Alec has been out of school this last week for end-of-term holidays and when he goes back he will be in proper Kindy. (Kindergarten for North Americans) Every morning for 5 days. I will miss him but I will also be gaining some freedom. What ever will I do?!
A man we just met, we'll call him Peter.(cause that's his name!) Gave us some advise. He told us that we should just forget that we are Canadians living in Fiji. Just think of ourselves as Fijians and forget that there was another way to do things. We had been discussing investments with him. For him, it's easy, he lives in Australia, is a multi millionaire and so his advise fell short at first. But. I think he's right. All this time, I've been trying to make this place better, like Canada. I have decided that I will try to make it a better Fiji. At least for the few I come in contact with and ourselves. Having made that decision, to remove ourselves from the "Canada" picture has made this a pretty good week. All-in-all.
Even with the rain.

Now I have requests to make a tent for Alec and Elias. Not just any old tent,a 'beautiful' tent! where does he get that from?

We finally have a street sign on our road. It reads. 'Beverly Hills Rd.' at least I don't have to feel so silly when I give my address!

If this is 'paradise' why am I so bored. Heaven must surely be filled with people to talk to, interesting and fun things to do. Standing in Awe and all that. It might even snow there. All I can tell you is that Fiji is not paradise, nor is it even close to Heaven. There is no one to talk to. the air is heavy, ran out of things to do a year ago, and yes, I can stand in awe of the Lord and thank Him that I have had this life experience but, I'm thinking that I'm now ready to be comfortable. I want to be around my "peeps" and talk with people who know me. I don't have to explain 'Yellowknife' in it's vaguest form and my children would know their cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and Grandparents. Shoot, might even entertain the thought of adding another consumer to the Walmart line-up.

I know, who would feel sorry for someone living in a place like Fiji? It's not what the brochures look like. That's where all the rich people go. We occasionally make it there if we can standby on a flight and grab a part of the beach. Where we live is full of litter and out right garbage. Smoke and roosters and barking dogs. And, we live in Beverly Hills! too funny.

Well, after all that complaining, we may yet stay here longer as we have no where else to go, Gerry loves his job and if we can make some wise investments, we might actually have a pension thingy. Too soon to tell.

This morning Alec told me "I sure love you Mummy" . What a way to straighten me out. Thanks little fella. Thanks God for my life. As boring as it may be right now.

Enjoyed our new BBQ tonite. Had to drive to another town to find it. "negotiate" on the price. Squish it into the car, move the babies over a bit, drive the 30 minutes home, set it up ... and finally twenty four hours later, enjoy the barbi for the first time. Ahhh, nuthin' like a char grilled sausage.

The pots of water are on the stove, so the boys can have a warm bath, and the witching hour(s) begin. (we have solar panels and even on a sunny day we don't get much hot water)

I am reminded that I am on 'dial-up'
that's the shizzle mnizzle...
